Madden NFL 16 Primer: Why 'Draft Champions' Matters

Madden NFL 15 ‘Gauntlet’ Video

You have never seen Madden like this before.
You have never seen Madden like this before.

The hype train for Madden NFL 15 is in full-swing this week, as for the second day in a row EA Sports has released a new video surrounding its upcoming football video game.

Yesterday we learned more about the new d-line controls, but now the focus has shifted to Madden’s “Gauntlet” mode.

We already knew a little bit about the Madden 15 Gauntlet mode from E3 some weeks back, but we never got a really good look at what it encompasses. In EA’s new video, you can get a glimpse at a few of the challenges inside of “The Guantlet,” some of which look pretty ridiculous (and hopefully fun).

What is the Madden 15 Gauntlet?

To refresh your memory, Madden’s new Gauntlet mode will be selectable from inside the Skills Trainer, and features an arcade-style challenge that is a sort of love letter to Madden mini-games of old. The goal in the Gauntlet mode is to see how far you can advance before you run out of lives, with weird “boss battles” every few levels that will make you question everything you thought about reality — such as kicking a 100 yard field goal in hurricane-force winds.

The new video released by EA can be found below, and features some fairly annoying voice-over work that is slightly less so once you realize it’s probably (hopefully) Cam Newton, and hey, he’s got another day job to worry about. Everything I’ve heard from people who got their hands on the mode at E3 has said it’s a surprisingly fun, and addictive addition that fans will appreciate once they try it out (we learned a lot from E3, actually). Word is there are also dozens and dozens of levels, so replayability should be pretty high for a while.

Madden 15 is set to release on August 26th, and will be available in both standard and Ultimate Edition. The Ultimate Edition of the game will include a purported $40 in Madden Ultimate Team content (30 pro packs, 1 draft class pack) for only an additional $10 on the game’s retail price. As for when you can expect to first get your hands on the game with the Madden 15 demo, that is not yet known. However, last year the demo came out about two weeks prior to title release. With no NCAA Football this year from EA, it’s possible a demo for Madden could arrive earlier than usual to entice fans.

    Sounds very interesting

Can you stop making it to where a 5’8 guy could out jump a 6’5 guy, in the history of football i dont think that ever happened

Honestly I feel the same way. I don’t think height advantages have been manifested well enough in Madden.

Also could you guys fix the players speed i see players that run the same 40s but some are faater which is outrageous. Ex San Diego Chargers CBSharese Wright ran a 4.46 89speed, SS Marcus Gilchrest ran a 4.45 88speed? And there are other players that ran a 4.45/6 with 92&93speed?

Just to clarify, we’re just a community site. We’re not affiliated with EA. You can hit up @Donny_Moore on Twitter, he is the ratings czar for Madden 15.

Am I the only one that thinks cam newtons voice on the gauntlet is annoying? And who do you guys think will be the sleeper team this year?

    • http://gomadden.com GoMadden

Definitely. It bothered the hell out of me lol. As for sleeper teams, I’d say the Browns but that’s probably not a sleeper at this point. Loaded with premier talent: Manziel, Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron, Joe Haden on D.

      • Brandon Ragland

I’m thinking the lions might be a sleeper…maybe lol

        • http://gomadden.com GoMadden

Kind of weird how rarely people play with the Lions online considering Calvin is the best in the game, isn’t it? Madden definitely needs to make tall receivers like Calvin feel like more of a mismatch when the ball is in the air.

          • Brandon Ragland

I’m thinking it might matter this year, they did add the wheel to compare WR’s to CB’s while at the line. And height was on the chart, so I’m thinking tall WR’s will be nice targets like it was in 12. And I’m thinking lions because they got tate from the hawks and ebron in the draft, and obv calvin johnson. Plus they have one of the best d lines in the game, and thats the main focus for the most part on D.

          • http://gomadden.com GoMadden

Good point. Plus they have Stafford, and QB quality is supposed to matter more this season.

    • Steel226

I think his voice is annoying too but in my opinion I think it’s intentional to get in your head.Kind of like they do at some fairs when they have the guy talking crap to mess you up from knocking him into a pool.A mental kinda thing.
I’ll be biased as for the sleeper team and say the Steelers. Our offense ended the year hot.Big Ben is a proven great QB.Our running game got better with the Bell/Blounter one-two punch.Along with Dri Archer in the drafter with his second best ever 40 time playing RB/WR.Our receiving depth is great with Antonio Brown, rising Marcus Wheaton, sure handed Lance Moore,DHB,rookie big reciever Ben will have a field day with soon in Martavis Bryant and other solid WR depth.Under rated TE Heath Miller.A very much improved OLine which is only going to get better after hiring Munchak. Our defense is much younger and faster. This was a great past draft for us and I’m excited for the future.
Homer aside,I’d also say possibly the Falcons,Lions,Bears, & Bucs are all teams that I think have gotten better for this year.

      • Brandon Ragland

I think the giants will be a sleeping giant this year honestly. They have a good team again. I can’t use them with my offense but defense, they have it going for them. I’m just stuck between the lions and patriots (my team!). If controlling the Dline is super op, I’ll probably end up going with the lions and cheesing with suh and fairley :) only reason I’d say falcons and steelers are out of the picture is because they have no pass rush for the most part. Your going to see people put their best LB at Dline if its op though. Hoping for the best for you though!
